‘Stress Position’
Bronze CMYK paint, 2008
About this work
Based on a newspaper image of a prisoner being ‘softened up’ at Abu Graib prison in Iraq the piece was developed as a maquette for the large wood carving ‘Breaking point’. The piece uses the original image as a starting point but the reverse angle has been imagined using images of myself as a guide. The bronze has been coated using CMYK colour to replicate the colour pallette of the original newspaper image.
The work was first exhibited at the Scottish Society of Artists annual exhibition where it was awarded first prize. It was also included in the exhibition “Decay’ which was part of the 2010 Edinburgh International Art Festival as well as ‘Partners’, a group exhibition in the Netherlands. Recently the piece was included in ‘Surface Tension’ a solo exhibition in the Shetland Museums and Archives.
